Background
Ms. Katelyn Matson is the current Choral Director at Antioch High School, in Antioch, California where she directs the Music Masters and Vocal Ensemble in addition to instructing a ukulele ensemble and Music Appreciation courses. She is the Ensemble Manager for the BDWinds, the youth wind ensemble branch of of the Blue Devils Performing Arts organization, and the Assistant Director for the C Corps, the 8-16 yo. marching drum corps.
Prior to these appointments, Katelyn worked as the Corps Manager for the Blue Devil’s B Corps for 2 seasons, and a restaurant manager at PF Chang’s in Walnut Creek, California.
Katelyn holds a Masters Degree in Music Teaching and Learning from the University of Southern California (USC), where she studied under Morten Lauridson, Jacob Vogel, and Beatriz Ilari. She was involved in the USC marching band for her 2 years there, and held the position of Co-Chair for the Colleges Against Cancer. In this role, she organized the college-wide Relay for Life on campus, raised thousands of dollars in donations, and volunteered at local hospitals’ cancer wards.
She also holds a double Bachelors degree in Music Education and Vocal Performance from the University of Redlands. It was here where she was given the vocal opportunities to sing back up to The Who in concert at the Hollywood Bowl, and travel to Newfoundland, Canada as the only choir invited from America to perform in the Choral Canada Podium in 2018. She was also the director of the University of Redlands Youth Choir and founded the University of Redlands Colleges Against Cancer program.
Katelyn’s professional interests include fostering inclusivity, musical literacy, and emotional expression through choral music. She aims to enhance organizational growth, streamline operations, and build strategic collaborations to further the impact of non-profit music organizations. In her free time, Katelyn enjoys running and hiking, golfing, watching USC Football and Dodgers Baseball, and spending time with her two cats Frankie and Mochi.
Katelyn comes from a rich musical background, with her father being a professional musician at Disneyland, which sparked her passion for music early on.
